Background of the Study
Career counseling plays a critical role in helping students make informed decisions about their future career paths. In Sokoto South Local Government Area, Sokoto State, there is a gap in providing personalized and data-driven career guidance to secondary school students. Traditional career counseling methods, such as one-on-one consultations with counselors, are often limited by time and resources, and fail to provide tailored advice that aligns with individual interests, strengths, and the evolving job market.
The introduction of an AI-based career counseling system will address these challenges by providing personalized career recommendations based on students’ skills, academic interests, and personality traits. The system would use machine learning algorithms to analyze student data, including academic performance, subject preferences, and behavioral patterns, to suggest suitable career paths. In addition, the system would provide valuable resources such as career articles, skills development tips, and pathways for further education. The AI-based system would be developed using Python for machine learning model development, Django for back-end management, and React for the front-end interface. The system would be accessible via both web and mobile platforms, ensuring ease of access for students.
Statement of the Problem
Secondary school students in Sokoto South Local Government Area often lack access to effective, personalized career counseling. Traditional counseling methods are insufficient in addressing the diverse needs of students, leaving many uncertain about their career choices and future prospects. There is a need for a more personalized, data-driven approach to career guidance that leverages technology to provide students with tailored recommendations and resources.
Objectives of the Study
To design and develop an AI-based Career Counseling System for secondary schools in Sokoto South Local Government Area, Sokoto State.
To assess the effectiveness of the AI-based system in providing personalized career recommendations to students.
To evaluate students’ satisfaction with the system’s usability and the relevance of the career guidance provided.
